Twitter reacts as wedding posters show old man wedded to young girl

Recently, a photo was posted by a twitter user which showed an old man and a young girl standing side by side. At first glance, you might assume that this is a poster of an old man and his granddaughter or great I granddaughter and maybe the occasion was his birthday. But when you examine it closely and read the letters written on it, you'll do a double take. The words 'Alhamdullilah on your wedding' were written at the top. This means that the event that was occurring was their wedding, a marriage between a young girl that looked about thirteen and an old man old enough to be her great-grandfather.

From the photo of their wedding calendar, it could be deduced that their wedding rites were already said and they were past the honeymoon stage since the date showed 22nd of January, that is on Friday.

From the inferred age of the girl, it can be concluded that what occurred is an act known as child marriage

N/B: Child Marriage is defined as a marriage of a girl or boy before the age of 18 and refers to both formal marriages and informal unions in which children under the age of 18 live with a partner as if married.

This poster sparked a lot of negative reactions from users on Twitter who condemned the action as child marriage and phedophelia. These are some of the reactions from users on twitter:

omosalewa @ salewaak..

this is not something to celebrate. this so-called custom is just an excuse for men who are pedophiles. it is a shame for those who are victims of this rubbish and those who practice it. this is child abuse.
