Manchester City's Manager, Pep Guardiola will look forward to keeping his outstanding record in the Carabao Cup today, but standing in his way are a resilient and a resurgent Manchester United with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hoping to present more evidence that he has turned the club around to winning ways, and has them heading in the right path to challenge for cups once more.
The two rivals met in the semis of the competition last year, City winning on aggregate on their way to a third straight EFL cup success, while the Manchester derby shortly before Christmas proved to be a tame, dull, eventless encounter; one which hopefully won't be repeated here as one team must triumph.
Manchester City Manager, Pep Guardiola.
Manchester United Manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjear.
At least one of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford have put a ball into the net in every single Man U game since that derby draw, including the weekend triumph over Aston Villa while Anthony Martial has also picked up some form in attack, leaving City no doubt to where the main threats to their crown will emerge from.
City themselves returned to form in a grand style on Sunday, winning Chelsea with ease and with a quick reminder to rival teams that when they are up for a game, they can be one of the most devastating and difficult to stop clubs around.
The match is slated to start by 7;45pm at Old Trafford.
Team news for the match; Manchester United have Victor Lindelof as the only first-team injury debut. Edinson Cavani is still on suspension. Ole Gunnar will have to choose who and who will feature in the match, where the likes of Dean Henderson have been playing.
For City, five players will not be available due to Covid-19, including Ederson, Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus. Nathan Ake is no doubt and Pep Guardiola will have to see who is fit to play after facing the Blues on Sunday.
Predicted Lineups; Man U; Henderson: Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw, Fred, McTominay: Rashford, Fernandes, Pogba: Martial.
Man City; Steffen: Cancelo, Stones, Dias, Mendy: Fernandinho, Gundogan: Sterling, De Bruyne, Foden: Aguero.
Predicted Scores; With both teams having a tie in their last competition, it means that today's match will definitely be a tough one. Manchester United is well in form, beating Liverpool and now in the top position of the premier league. Manchester City has also returned to form, following their easy win over Chelsea on Sunday. However, one team has to win to move forward, and for me it will be Manchester United. A 2-1 victory over Man City should be expected.
